President Private Hospital Re-development Public Exhibition
The re-development of President Private Hospital (PPH) has reached an important milestone with the exhibition period for this project having commenced on 16 December 2020.
PPH was originally constructed in the early 1970s as a 45 bed private hospital. Substantial growth in the local community, changes in health care needs and the passage of time have led to the need to re-develop PPH to better meet the needs of the Community.
Under the proposed re-development, PPH will be transformed into a modern, world class private hospital that will provide medical, surgical, rehabilitation and mental health services to the Sutherland Shire and surrounding regions.
The re-development is expected to cost $40 million and will be funded by PPH’s owner, Macquarie Health Corporation (MHC). The investment represents the Sutherland Shire’s single largest private health investment.
“Every Australian should have the ability to access high quality care close to their home,” said Mr. David Wenkart, Deputy Chief Executive of MHC. “We are proud to be investing in the establishment of high-quality healthcare infrastructure in the Sutherland Shire. Our recent experience with COVID has highlighted the importance of private healthcare facilities.”
The proposed re-development has Key elements of the re-development include:
- Construction of a new hospital entrance from Hotham Road to facilitate easier access
- 110 inpatient beds providing surgical, medical and rehabilitation care
- A 72 bed mental health facility that will providing a range of mental health services
- Refurbishment of the theatre complex and the addition of a new theatre
- General refurbishment and modernisation across the facility
The exhibition period for the Alterations and Additions to President Private Hospital SSD-10320 EXH-12114146 has commenced.
The project successfully passed the rigorous design excellence review established by the NSW Government to ensure major projects are of the highest design standard. The Hotham house property located on the grounds of President Private Hospital regretfully could not be retained and its demolition was accepted as the best option during the design excellence review by the NSW Government Architects Office.
The redevelopment will provide employment for upwards of 700 hundred jobs to predominately local healthcare and construction workers. The staged nature of the development will mean that the existing hospital will continue to operate throughout the construction process. “We are genuinely excited about the opportunities, services and outcomes that this new project will deliver to the Sutherland Shire.”
